Hi, I got the same feeling like Elaine. Teachers will use Mandarin and English in P.2.
My children are in P.2 right now, and they start to have guided writing, so please don't worry at all. If u have time, try to borrow story books and conduct shared reading with ya child.
In my mind, if a child can understand what the teaching material content (Chinese, English, and Maths), no problem to apply "普通話班". By the way, u may be find there are too much learning material made by the teachers. I am so appreciate what the teachers made.
P.1 and P.2 are different, some of my children's exercises' level (both for Chinese and English) are quite close to tutor class for P.3.
Extensive reading is good for primary school students.
Something about the principal saying, I attended 2 times last year, I could remember that she said there was no need to buy extra exercise books for children, why? Teaching material from WWS is enough. My experience is ... try to share enough time for children's learning, I haven't heard principal suggestion of learning from outside.

Anson, sorry for misleading you. There are 3 classes of "普通話班" in P.2. My children told me when they were in English lesson, teacher use English to communicate with them, but there is no English class in WWS. Chinese is the only language for teaching (except English) in WWS.
Last year, I also confused elite class and "普通話 班". You will know more later.
Hope WWS can adopt Mandarin as a teaching tools for Chinese in near future.

Elaine, 多謝六,七年前你做左我支盲公竹.講左小學好多野比我知. 尋日回家我同阿仔同阿女講:大個喇, 中學生啦. 佢地兩個都註册了, 咁快趣就小學畢業了.

唔係啊! 不過佢地以前已經係仔仔女女嘅nursery 同學. 我都識佢地.
我阿女派左去 St. Catherine for girls, 阿仔後來成功叩門, 去左中國婦女會中學.

今年升中派位—定好，只係唔淸楚係咪歷年最好。我囝囝係精英班應該派得最差，第六志願，不過，都係英中。後來即刻去左港島東叩門，第二曰八号朝早收到中學叫去註册。
另外，七号放榜曰校長講會再行兩班精英班，可能將軍澳多左幾倍英中學位喇，家長们要注意啦。
