Actually 30% is the ideal percentage but Mrs. Lau stated that they would allow more subsidies if necessary. Mr. Lee also mentioned other subsidies - $1000 per annumn - for activities. All these subsidies would be paid by parents, not government, school or SKH. What if the school fees being collected could not cover all the subsidies/allowances promised? Would the school increase school fees? The school's calculations based on current figures only - when the school collects $3000 per year. I am sure more students would apply for fee deduction once $35000 is charged.
I don't agree with certain parents to label those who disagree with the plan as mean and selfish people. I myself do not agree with the plan because 1., I don't think it is feasible; 2., I am an old girl of Heep Yunn and I am very sorry to see Heep Yunn's tradition being destroyed; 3., I don't think capable but poor students would take Heep Yunn in the long run because if I were one I would not want to receive other people's subsidies if I have other school options.
I love my mother school and I hope the school could come up with a better plan.
