Help! 回流媽媽-不知所措! 有關N1插班及2012/13 K1一問

各位家長好! 我在英國住了8年, 囡囡現二歲(0906)。現打算9月中回流香港上班。我對 Nursery / Kindergarten認識很少，現時正努力在BK"惡補"。

想請問囡囡一月插N1班的機會大唔大？插N1班要何時申請？9月會否太遲呢？

而2012/13 K1的申請及interview會在甚麼時候呢？

囡囡在英國是留在家的，從沒有香港小朋友的training， 亦極度怕羞及慢熱，從不肯離開家長獨自一人，我好擔心佢嘅interview，冇一間會收佢？

K1 面試會係黎緊既10月開始.不過申請就會9月開始.
你仲有時間.最好快D帶佢番來.
你打算比佢讀咩學校?佢識唔識廣東話?
雖然我覺得對HK既小朋友來講面試班係無必要.你既CASE如果有必要可能都要上下果D面試班.

N1 應該村校會有位.當然出名既學校你都唔洗諗,有位都比左WAITING LIST入面既小朋友先.

For K1 application, normally kindergarten will have their interview during Sept 2011-Jan 2012.

I think it's better to bring your daughter to come back HK during the summer holiday and let her adapt to the environment. Also, study in playgroup maybe another option for you instead of study in N1.

基於現有份工的condition, 我要返到八月尾，年假又放晒，所以要9月先返到香港。


我都冇打算比佢讀d好出名既學校，怕佢好辛苦。我想揾間唔太傳統，可以快樂學習，最重要唔好令囡囡怕佐返學。


囡囡都聽得明簡單的廣東話指示，但唔係太識講，因daddy唔係香港人。唔知村校會唔會收呢？村校係咪要逐間打去問有冇位？


想請問面試 班一般要上幾多個月？係唔係隨時可以報名既呢？

Actually i have been in your situation 2 years ago, i didn't put my son into N1, but playgroup instead, and he get into K1 without any problem. Try to talk to your daughter in Chinese more often. (by the way, do you want your daughter to study in traditional school in the future? if not, you can try Victoria Kindergarten in K1)

Pratice with her everyday with some easy questions, e.g. what's your name, how old are you? Teach her color, shapes, fruits, 五官 for K1 interview.

where are you going to live? that's very important, u won't want your kid to travel long way to school, right?!  island or kowloon, then other mommies can help from there.

If u target the happy learning environment, as most oversea mommies like, u can try tutortime or victoria for K1.  If Chinese is not a must, ESL is good, given your situation (kid born in UK, and daddy not chinese, it would be easier to get a seat).  U can check out their websites and call them now, they can feed you more info by email.

怕羞,對面試嚟講是幾不利的情況.建議你回港後多啲帶小朋友見陌生環境陌生人(actually這對他的社交/及日後的學校生活也有好處),等佢適應同習慣一下.

老實講啦.唔係名校既就多數用廣東話教學.
要名校先有英普班.你要想清楚佢第2時係邊度升學先.
如果都係番去英國最好都係讀國際學校
如果係hk升學你又要諗入傳統小學定邊類小學先.
香港地要愉快學習真係談何容易. 求學唔係求分數都係厄人既. 考幼稚園都咁激烈. 你可想而知家長們係點train up自己既小朋友. 唔好太天真.
想好自己小朋友條路點行先決定考咩學校
你而家都好難考到好既n班入playgroup都係可行既方法呀. 如果入一般村校既n 你小朋友可能夾唔到.而且都可能好多大陸同胞.你要考慮清楚

A big thank you to all for your advice, suggestions and experience sharing!

Yes, there are a lot of things to consider and to be honest, I am not having the answer to myself for many of the questions, e.g. whether we will come back to the UK in the future for further study… it’s uncertain at the moment.

We haven’t decided which area / district to live in and I think we are quite flexible as we have to rent out a place when we come back.
I would put my daughter’s travelling first as I do not want her to spend a lot of time to commute everyday to school.
It’s very tiring.
Initially I am thinking about living in Shatin / Tai Wai area as I grew up there.



My daughter got the HKID, does it make any difference to the applications? Sorry for my silly question.

May I ask if your son spoke Cantonese when he came back to HK 2 years ago? How many days of playgroup did you put him into when you were back?
Are there any particular playgroups that you would recommend?
Do the parents need to accompany the child to attend the playgroup?

O… what a big project and I am glad there are nice parents here to share!

Acutally i put my son into playgroup for 3 days a week. (English based) and need someone to accompnay him.
My son can speak some Cantonese as we speak Cantonese at home. (Actually by that time, his language skill is not that good, can only speak a few word)

For playgroup, it has a good environment for kids to learn how to 相處 with other kids, and learn some 上堂規矩.

Also, it's ok if your kids don't have HKID, but you have to apply for 居港權 in order to study in the kindergarten.

May I also ask a couple more questions:

• Where can I find an English playgroup for a 2 yrs old? Ideally in Kowloon side (2-3 days a week), any good recommendations?
• Which kindergartens offer eng-mandarin class?  Are there anywhere that would have a list or I have to go through every school to find it out?

My suggestion is put your daugther into playgroup first.  My favor playgroup is "Infinity Children".  You can go to their web site to have a look.
