As I saw some cases from other forum.  If your child is a Citizen who born outside Canada (either or both parents are Canadian Citizen).  They might need to pay school fee (as international student) until they are 18years old.  If your child is under 18 years old, you can go back to Canada  and declare as permanent resident.  Then your child can have free of charge of education.  As Canadian Government doesn't want the parents drop their kids in Canada without parents.  Therefore, if you want your child to study in Canada, and you have to scarify your job in Hong Kong.  Or you might wait your child until 18 years old.

I remembered that i saw a case in Uwant or discuss hk.  The child (Cititzen) had student in Canada for few year free of charge.  Several years later, they billed the child, and said that the child was not qualify as local citizen.

Now I face the same problem, if I have to go back to Canada.  I have to move the whole family (even though I work in HK. i cannot declare as non-resident anymore, due to have family tie with Canada)

Hi,
I am considering sending my Canadian daughter back to Vancouver to study high school.  I heard that even Canadian students have to pay 2 years school fee if their parents do not stay with them in Vancouver, i.e.the Canadian parents are not residents of Canada.  Starting from the 3rd year will be free.  Is it so?
In that case, it would be better to study in private school if even public school is not free.

IB curriculum is not easy to handle, especially for HK kids, since our mother tongue is not English. Besides, IB curriculum requires a lot of writing, and if your kid's writing ability is not excellent, maybe you want to have a second thought. However, IB is widely accepted by all Universities worldwide.

You can apply for OHIP and SIN card after you arrive in Canada. You should also be able to get the temp insurance info from your school. Don't worry, the school will be able to help your son to apply for temp insurance on registration day.

Hi Peggy,

My son is going to Toronto this Sept for grade 10, he is Canadian citizen.
May I ask you some questions ?

The private school which we have confirmed the offer said that students (Canadian
citizens returning to Ontario) can apply OHIP, but it takes a minimum of 3 to 4 months of
permanent residency before an individual will be considered for coverage under OHIP.
So they advised us to purchase a minimum of 3 months coverage of health insurance
at the starting of school.
So it is different from what you saying ??

Please advise where to go to apply OHIP and Sin Card ? Could advance booking be done in
Hong Kong ?

According to your experience, Toronto is extremely cold, could you suggest what to take care of and what must bring for the cold weather. Would easily get skin problem or sickness ??

Please advise.
Many thanks.

If my girl (P.6) is a Canada citizen, I plan to send her back to Canada to study
Year 9. (F.3) after 2 years. I will not stay here and she will study private shool
(1st year boarding for better learning enviroment, then may be change to day private school.) What can I do? I have some friends there. Can they applicant as her guardian? Because I need to stay in HK to support her school fee. Can I still claim to be non-resident?

Please advice. Thanks a lot!

If the kids are Canadian citizens, they may not need to pay school fees.
