睇睇下書，自然會識英文？

我也認為不要强迫小孩為Harry Potter 而Harry Potter。大家閱讀能力根本不同。如樓上曾說不用查字典也能閱讀Harry Potter。即書本付合水平。如看一頁要查很多字。那麼可能該書仍未合適那水平。何不循序漸進去建立字庫和興趣呢？如果連閱讀也要追趕，真沒意思。

要小孩愛閱讀一定要讓他們讀得開心快樂。ORT, magic tree house, magic school bus, Mr Men, Wimpy kids, Captain Underpants and etc都可以試，因應男女年齡不同讀不同的書。不用比較，不是個個小孩都要啃Harry Porter & Roald Dahl's系列。
不過除了消閒地讀還可以間中鼓勵寫book report, 我最近在weekend要求個仔做，不是要他做summary(因他之前會寫2頁A4紙給我），而是要他列出：
Book title, author, choose 5 verbs that you learned in this book & write down the meaning from dictionary, list the main characters & describe each one in one sentence, and what are the events happened in the story.
這模式令他速讀（他每本書都讀得好快）過後有機會沉澱一下和吸收。不過切記，不是本本都做，每星期一本已好好。
最後提提Raz Kid, 是網上一個reading program, 類似每日一篇，分level聽、讀，然後答問題，既訓練comprehension, 也是聆聽和模仿native speaking 的好習作。我仔在學校由4歲半便做到依家7歲，正在做level R, 進展平穩，可以嘗試。

Hey! Please don't misquote my comment. I never said check dictionary is a must!  Children will either ask the words meaning or bypass the dictionary checking to speed up their reading. I also never ask my kid what is the meaning of the vocabulary when he did his reading.  But I did encourage him to find the meaning when he felt the meaning of word was not understand.  For learning purpose, children has capability to looking information from dictionary will benefit for their study.  Just my 2 cents.

The Da Vinci Code, unfortunate events   等書。他非常喜歡閱讀﹐閱讀時亦不會借助字典。請問您還有什么好書推介嗎﹖另外﹐他也非常喜歡寫。不過只是針對他有興趣的主題來寫﹐洋洋洒洒也可以寫幾千字。不過就沒辦法逼他每天在閱讀之後寫一些什么﹖您是如何鼓勵您的孩子寫作的呢﹖

建立孩子的閱讀能力是一個問題，這還相對地容易。
引發孩子對閱讀的興趣是另一個問題。
以下是我囝囝的一些comments:
unfortunate events --- silly and boring
horrible science --- disgusting
Andy Griffiths 的書 ---- disgusting
關於神怪的書 --- scary, nightmares
story books --- not real, boring

他們只看star wars 的書，diary of wimpy kids. 細囝前排突然看Zac Power, 停了一段日子，最近又突然看batman, superman. 早前叫細囝睇captain underpants, 他說沒興趣，這幾天又在學校借來看。大囝聽老師讀the sisters grimm, 後就一口氣看完那8本書。現在又暫停不看書。
帶他們去圖書館，只對電腦有興趣。
很難捉摸！
