The issue is not grade 1 or 2 or HKSMA competition winning or not.... the main point should be, WHAT experience will make your son a "better" being ?
Any good school really ultimately look at the interview performance of your child. By exposing him to different experience, including performance, and preparation for an appropriate level of exam, or competition, the "journey" itself is ultimately what will benefit your child the most. Any experienced interviewer will see this when your child has gone through it. Not what grade is stated on your piano exam certificate, because if your child doesn't speak in there, or is really shy, and when asked how does he like playing piano.. he doesn't say anything, or shows negative feelings, then whatever grade level is still pointless.
Of course winning HKSMA would be a big bonus, shows your child has talent, however, I wouldn't hold my life plans for it.
Just try to let your child enjoy the journey of piano learning, and music appreciation, the benefits from it will far exceed what "grade" he took for an exam.
It's the journey of getting to the exam that counts, not the "ends" of completing the exam.
Good luck ! (Just my humble opinion). |
