Did anyone go to the DGS information day yesterday? I was in China and missed the event. Can anyone be kind enough to share what is required?

Nothing special. All the requirement is listed in the application procedure which can be downloaded from the school's website. You can always send in supplementary document (before deadline) after you've submitted the formal one.

Dear iamjoy,

The answer is 'No'. There will be 2 rounds in the entire process.

The first one will be screening all the applicants' submission(academicreports, ECA awards/achievement, recommendation, etc.).  Then DGS will sendout invitation letters to each short-listed applicant.

The second round will be personal interviews.  The first interview will befocused on academic(Chinese, English, Maths, etc.).  For those who succeedin the first interview will then be invited to the 2nd interview, in whichcase, the applicant will be accompanied by her parents to see the principalMrs. Lau before they make the final decision.

I encourage you to read the document on the school's website.  They stated very clearly the requirements you need to know.

Dear yildary,
Thank you so much for your clear information. The process seems very difficult. I am seriously thinking of whether my daughter should go on applying it. I have two friends who are switching their daughters from DGS to International schools because they cannot handle the pressure and workload. Any advice?

Why do they want to switch?
I learned from one of the student now studying in F.1 this year, she said it is not so bad! She is quite happy to study in DGS and not so much homework for her.
Does any parent give some more comment on studying in DGS?

我同事個大女自行考到DGS，今年中三，佢話校內競爭好大，個個同學都好叻，唔識減壓，或者自己揾唔到定位會幾辛苦。到個細女舊年升中放榜派到庇理羅士，之後DGS call佢話有位，但係同事衡量過細女無大女咁叻，加上唔係咁識處理壓力，怕個細女入左DGS都讀唔上，最終去番庇理羅士。

你同事個女係邊樹讀呀?是否成綪或某項技能突出?我有個同事(香港區住)早兩年派到去庇理羅士,其實佢係想去英華女校,但考唔到(自行時考英華,大抽奬時放英華第1,庇理第2,所以知係抽入去),初初讀時話都有壓力和幾辛苦.

好難相信 BPS 擺第二都仲有機會抽到入去，英華同BPS又唔同區，住香港區都唔係全香港區嘅學校任得你揀。

對唔住!我攪錯左,係自行考英華,大抽奬放庇理第1,因為當年仍然只得1個自行選擇.同事當年行"讀普通小學,考前幾名"好過"讀名校小學,辛苦考唔知幾名"呢個方法投考出名中學,佢果女都好叻,係前幾名的,又好自律,好似係P4時開始彈琴,大約1年就考到第1個Dist的2級,跟手果年直考5級,都係Dist,好似上年考到唔知6or7級Merit,果女話部琴唔好,令佢只考到Merit,阿媽今年換了部新琴,可以上到高級好多,6萬銀甘上下,係學校都參予唔少樂器活動,如果我果囡有甘自律就好了!

我同事住炮台山，兩個女唔知係讀循道定理 (我分唔清邊間打邊間)，校內成績固然好啦，游水仲好勁，琴就好似都有6級，其中一個仲係吹管樂，大女更係代表過香港參加過奧數比賽攞到奬，所以考到DGS,我地成班同事都覺得唔出奇。

I think it really depends on the student. I just think that DGS has changed a lot from the old days that I was there. There was a lot more freedom and the search for knowledge was more real. Now it is more about certificates, awards, trophies and As and many many As....

緣來必有因,學業成績好外,又有其他特長.我果囡上年有個師姐,成績唔係好突出,應該講唔係叻果批,不過游水係區內攞奬,係P5和P6時,但如果比自己女拔果D游水女將,我諗佢唔算突出,元朗區係游泳界成績(新界區)算包尾,出到去分齡賽只能達標(自己D媽咪都甘講,係有一兩年出過成績突出者),竟然(對唔住用左呢兩個字,但係真係估唔到)考到去女拔,傳出來(游水果批)話係人事攪入,我覺得有些是因游水而考入,但又唔覺游水成績可以去到被揀中的地步,到現在我都百思不得其解?如果你話琴係被揀選原因之一,我又認為好大影响,因為現在好多人都學琴,考上5級或以上大有人在,這變成好似理所當然,識彈琴的學生,我諗女拔應可以攞個law來盛,唔係甚麼大技能(唔係睇少,在元朗區有間所謂有名氣的中學一早已和考生說,"琴"不是甚麼大技能,我地大把...唉!);有時我都好想知考入者是甚麼能耐入去的?

thus my friend said they picked special instruments such as Guzheng and Cello. something the orchestra (esp. Chiense orchestra) needs and not many people are practicing.
