My eldest son is learning phonics in a center. I feel quite good and improve his english a lot. The information is PM to you, pls check.

LA,
My eldest son is 5yrs old. He's been on this course for about 1 yr and still is taking lessons there. Orginally, I let him take this course because he's been trying many courses in other ctrs e.g. in Hang Hau and Po Lam but he finds them not very interesting. When he went to this course he began to enjoy his lessons. I didn't expect him to learn and remember all the English because he's only small and only wanted him to enjoy and be exposed to an Eng environment. But after a few months his Eng improved, especially his oral/listening.

I think 16 months is too early to start phonics, playgroup should be more appropriate. However, you can call the center, the teachers there are willing to give you advice even you wouldn't join the course. My son started at around 3 yrs old, I'm satisfy with his improvement in english oral.
