Yes, my daughter only spoke English before K1. I practised Cantonese with her during the summer before K1, she became more willing to use Cantonese. For the first two weeks at school, sometimes she didn't understand what other said, or she didn't know how to express herself in Cantonese. After one month, she spoke much more Cantonese and she is now in K3.
