宣小 and KTS ? Which one I should choose?

Dear ALL

Very sad about the Allocation Result yesterday!
Now my daughter has 2 back-up offers by 宣小 and KTS.
As they are very very similar, can someone give views to me as to which one i should choose for my girl?

宣小要考慮埋音樂和宗教，有無興趣？我覺得呢二科真係要有啲興趣才讀得好。

First of all, both schools are very good and no regret to choose.

Totally agree with PoYi723 that you need to think about musical instrument part. It really depends on your kid and it is hard to push if she is not interested. Actually, it is the major reason why i don't apply APS for my daughter.

p.s. my daughter will study in KTS in Year 2008.

Same as my daughter, I will go for KTS because my daughter has no talent in music.  She likes playing piano only and doesn't want to learn another instrument.  I have learned piano before and I found that I have to spend quite a lot of them everyday to practise it.  I don't think I can handle one more instrument and learn it well.

Agree that you should think for your own case as every child isn't the same.

選擇宣小的家長要想清楚宣小和其它學校的分別。基本上，每位宣小的學生都有不錯學術和音樂水平。但是宣小收生時，並沒有評估考生的音樂潛能。大部份的學生可以在音樂方面這樣出色是因為他們付出了時間去練習，而不是因為音樂方面的天份。雖然學生可以學術和音樂兩者兼得，但是同時都要在兩方面付出。如果家長不認同學習音樂的價值和所付出的時間，就要認真考慮清楚。

但無論選擇那一間，都請家長早些放出不要的學位，讓其他學生可以入讀較佳的學校。

我覺得宣小and KTS都一樣咁好, 課程一樣高, 派英中一樣over 90%, 校網又一樣咁靚! 真係好難決擇!我自己就考慮埋宗教, 音樂及環境!

我囡囡冇宗教信仰, 對音樂興趣不大, E+每日都要威迫利誘先肯練琴, 我唔敢想像要佢學多一樣樂器我會有幾勞氣! 而且我同意ChiChiPaPa話"...大部份的學生可以在音樂方面這樣出色是因為他們付出了時間去練習..." 佢E+每日都要花1小時練琴, 加上佢又冇音樂天份, 相信佢要比其他人更加努力, 付出更多時間, 我怕佢冇太多時間去應付多樣樂器!

此外, KTS環境亦係我考慮因數之一, 平房式設計加上周圍綠色植物, 感覺好舒服! 基於以上原因, 我最終揀KTS!

Agreed.  One more point to be considered:  If you
are aiming for Heep Yunn, APS girls have a better
chance to get into HY than KTS girls do.

Yes, and Heep Yunn School requires all students to learn an instrument other than the piano (they can also start learning it in F.1). They will need to perform in front of class as part of their music exam.

協恩中學收番大部分協恩小學學生, 咁知唔知佢地會有幾多%係收宣小學生呢?

因為協小只有三班，收九成都還有一半位(約100)收外校生。至於宣小有幾多學生考/抽到，就年年不同了，和我大女同班(2A)的都至少5、6個。

關於學樂器可以補充一句：其實不是所有樂器都要花很多時間練的，一些吹管樂器，尤其是大大件的，通常比較容易學，甚至樂器是學校的不會拿回家，所以也未必要花很多時間。但這些樂器報中學時其實很吃香，有樂隊的中學（通常都是人氣好的）都會需要這些人才（例如低音大提琴，巴松管etc)，要苦練的小提琴反而人才供過於求，較容易的中提琴又是各學校樂隊迫切需要的部份。

我到APS網站找到去年有17人派去協恩中學。

應是18人升協恩。女生總人數少於60人，所以比率大約是30%。

Well, if you read carefully, the web page stated that 2005-2007, that means 2005/2006 and 2006/2007. Two years....kind of tricky, right?

最弊學邊種樂器係由學校安排, 自己冇得揀!

Actually in EDB's terminology, they use "2005-2007" to mean those P.6 students who graduated in 2007, because they began submitting their marks in P.5. Our headmistress explained this during a parents seminar too. Therefore this year's P.6 graduates are denoted by 2006-2008 students in all school charts.

雖然是學校分配，但家長可以提出轉學其它樂器，而根據過往家長間的討論，轉學大型樂器並不困難的，因為大型樂器較貴，和不方便，所以那些樂器班通常有位。反而多數家長和小朋友都喜歡熱門的樂器，而要轉學熱門樂器，如小提琴，通常機會不大。

My daughter had ever studied in KTS last year and I found that the teachers are very nice, care and smart looking. Meanwhile,  the classroom are widely located, surrounding the central open play-ground. There are also many ECA for the strudents to join after school or on Sat. I'm happy that she could enjoy school life there..
