ESF Shatin Junior or Renaissance college?

What is the main difference between Shatin Junior and RC? Any comments? Thanks!

1) See if Chinese standard is your concern (RC - using local HK textbooks + traditional Chi characters// SJS - using simplified Chinese characters & non-HK textbooks of a relatively lower level of Singapore versions)
2) See what you prefer : prefer "PYP + MYP + IBD (Renaissance College)" or "PYP (SJS) + British IGCSE + IBD (Shatin College)"
3) The school fee of SJS is lower than that of RC.
4) For RC, there is the newly introduced scheme of nomination rights ($400000) for the applicants of Year 2013.
5) $50000 has to be paid (one off) if your child goes to RC starting from Year 2013.
6) Your child can order lunchboxes at RC cafeteria but there's no lunchbox ordering service at SJS.

The location of RC is much convenient, as it is just right outside of Heng On MTR station. If paying the school bus to SJS, they are pretty much the same fees

Apart from the above, RC has bigger and nicer campus with very good facilities

沙田college , 較多IB 出名的老師

一些出IB 書的老師, 也在沙田COLLEGE

RC 數理較好, 但較香港本地化, 較多本地學生

以前RC 不用考入學試, 現在開始要

我接觸的Shatin college 學生, 質素較RC高

沙田college 在班上, 較多講英文

與我見到的小朋友,對我說那位人士

已經是幾年前, 那時他本地中學考完會考(會考18分), 知道入大學機會低

轉去RC, 考IB, 最後40分, 佢英文2年冇乜進步過, 選三科HL數理全部7分

原因群香港學生, 他說情況普遍, 是否你小朋友年紀相對年紀少?

我第二個post都有提起

我有個朋友女兒, 讀RC, GRADE 12, 英文不錯

原因是由細讀到大, 她在學校的朋友, 則是外國人或ABC 較多

RC 高FORM, 外國人相對比較少

如果年紀輕那批, 接觸英文機會比較多

如果去到高FORM, 多本地中學的學生轉過來

他們英文水準較差, 且喜歡廣東話, 影響語言學習氣氛


如果高form轉入去, 學英文機會未必想像中這麼多

看SHATIN　COLLEGE的学生、純粋放学見到、似乎大部分都説英文、EVEN　WITHIN　LOCAL　CHINESE　STUDENTS.　可能従SJS上来的話、都習慣了説英文。　当然不可代表他門的英文就好過RC的学生。

HL science+maths不是想像中那麼難

難的原因,很明顯

1. 學校用書問題,  用的書不是最清析那本

2. 老師用筆記教, 飛書

3. IB science 同maths 接近全部書 都沒有detailed solutions

即學生, 做完後, 想查steps, 原來冇.....

4. 香港學生會考考十幾, 20分, 之後去讀IB, 讀eng lit 死緊

最近朋友兒子, 要寫凱撒大帝的lit , 叫救命

同埋香港學生的TOK.....


解決以上問題的方法

就是不再將知識,局限於IB

IB 考的東西, 在澳洲, 英國, 香港,非常接近

特別是ALEVEL , 8成會出現


IB 學生覺得HL 難, 因為他們不習慣填鴨

不習慣操題目, 有題目, 都不懂操, 因為做完冇得對

是故家長應用書本上入手, 搵一本清析的參考書

會考18-20分, 其實不低分.....


IB 難, 是因為內容入面, 教的野, 某些是大學一年班

但IB考試局出得不難

所以為何補極都補不好, 是課本用書

不信者, 我可以舉2本CHEM HL的書叫你們讀緊IB的兒女看, 去書局看完

大家就知分別有多大....

我那位朋友兒子, 叮嚀師弟, 得到7的方法, 真係不要局限學校書本

平時落堂傾計, 搭校車時

一大群人, SKYPE 就會用英文

但當人一少...

even shatin college 都會有此毛病

近幾年

自08年, 不少學校的外國人都走左

金融海嘯影響猶在, 走左沒有回來

朋友告訴grade 7 認識的白人有20人

之後grade 12, 只餘下5人

愈高form, 講廣東話的誘因愈大
